Our story

Ashley and Mira are old friends who share a passion for food. As roommates in Halifax, where they both studied at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, they collaborated on countless meals, including their very special tradition of "second dinner,” which often ended with a scoop of ice cream. Now, they bring years of individual experience as artists, cooks, and business-owners to a new collaboration: Little Spoon, a small-batch ice cream company on BC's Sunshine Coast.

Ashley owned and operated the popular Brown Paper Packages Ice Cream in Vancouver for six years, using local ingredients for inventive flavors and her signature ice cream sandwiches. In tandem with her ice cream business, Ashley was the chef at Pazzo Chow, a local-favorite cafe and market in Vancouver's Chinatown. Ashley grew up on Bowen Island, and after many years of living in downtown Vancouver, decided to move to the beautiful Sunshine Coast in 2019, where she lives with her husband and daughter.

Mira loves feeding people. She grew up in a grocery shop, studied contemporary art at Columbia University in New York and culinary arts at the Pacific Institute in Vancouver. She has worked at a number of farm to table restaurants, including the Sooke Harbour House on Vancouver Island. The food she loves is sustainable, local, beautiful and delicious. She has foraged and catered on the coast for the last five years.
